Hello, my name is Jason Maxfield, born and raised in New York State. When I began my journey as a Forex trader, it was early 2017. At the time Bitcoin was heavily on the rise and I had noticed a significant increase in “traders” within my area. Back then, I was dabbling with e-commerce, as I had networked with a few people who inspired me to become an entrepreneur. That’s when I got invited to join a trading group in which I was paying a monthly premium in order to learn and understand trading. Not everything was sunshine and rainbows from there. So allow me to backtrack a little but to where it all began. This is my journey.
2016 - "I'm getting a taste of the real world, graduating high school and moving forward."
During 2016, I was fresh out of my first semester in college when I decided to take a break.
I wanted to focus on making money and took up a job as a car salesman. At the time, I was content honestly. Until the day I met a 22 year-old entrepreneur. It was at my friend’s girlfriend's cousin, who pulled up in a new Porsche. I had just made $3,500 for the month at 19, and was feeling great. When the car door opened, I was expecting an older gentleman to step out. That was the kind of mentality I had until that very day. That there was only one path to go down in life, and that was to work a 9-5, retire at 60, and then have fun. Long story short, we got talking as he was only in New York for one day. It was the first time I had heard about e-commerce, and that there were other routes in life that could obtain liberation. My mentality drastically changed from there, as I realized all my long days and nights were producing his daily income in a day with what I make in a month. While he freely chooses to go wherever he wants, when he wants. I had then felt bound and knew to myself that I needed to do something great in life and break from society's norms.
2017 - "I finally got a taste of what it's like to live my wildest dreams. From that year forward, I knew I did not want to live an ordinary life."
When 2016 had ended, so did my first e-commerce business. Complete flop, learned from trial and error. Lost a lot of money in the process, my second one however did decent. That’s when I had left my job as a car salesman. Around March of 2017, I joined a group “educating” Forex and Crypto trading. I was learning how to trade originally as side income but eventually it became my main focus. It was something I enjoyed more than e-commerce and results from trading Forex eventually yielded more than my e-commerce business. That is when I decided to sell my business and invest that money into my trading account.
As the trading group I was a part of grew, I noticed that only about 3 traders including myself within the group of 30 were actually trying to grow as traders. As for the others they were only copying signals (Trade setups sent by others) and trying to recruit new traders. That is when I realized that not only were the majority of “traders” in this group just marketers. I also realized that I was paying monthly subscriptions to “learn” how to trade that was only slowing down my progression. These were the motivating factors which led to the creation of, Forex Forensics,in 2018. I had a mission set in mind to create a group of determined individuals that can help each other grow as traders. One that did not require monthly payments to learn, no one constantly over your shoulder pushing you to sell the idea to others. Just pure education and development.
2018 - "I had tried building a skyscraper without a foundation to support it, Yet I was too focused on the future that I couldn't improve the present."
Throughout 2018, being a fully independent trader. Life was great at first, this is where reality hit me. I was so caught up in the feeling of being independent and “free” that I dug myself into $20,000 in debt. Maxing out all my credit cards, I was spending more than I was able to make. It happened after the first time I had made a $500 day. Though I had a decent technical analysis, I had ZERO risk management. Where I was not fully planning out each trade, no risk to rewards set ups. I was just gambling, sometimes getting lucky but paying the consequences of not establishing full trade plans. The week after I had my $500 day, I had blown my account. At the time I would build money in my account, yet tell myself. “ I’ll save all of the profit I made, and put it towards scaling my account to yield higher profits. Then pay off my debt.” Compounding and growing your account isn’t a bad thing, however I quickly learned that if you weren’t paying yourself anything each week. You did not make anything. This is where the major key points in discipline we preach at Forex Forensics, that you always want to have a foundation before building up. This isn’t a get rich quick course, sustain stable income then go from there. Everyone learns at a different pace, don’t rush yours.
2019 - "I took a step backwards, to take a leap forward. The puzzle pieces are all there, I just need to put them together. Some will understand, others I won't expect to."
2019 was my hell, with all the debt accumulated. No job, trading account blown. I had no choice but to find some sort of income. With the gap of not being employed for a year, places questioned me. I also decided to return and finish college in order to get a better job to help fund another trading account and do it right this time. For an entire year, I juggled waking up at 4:45a.m each morning to work at a home depot. Leave there to go to college, then focus on trading after work so I could get the hell out. Depression, anxiety, and darkness consumed my mind. What kept me straight and up, was just knowing this was not permanent. I was doing all this for my ultimate goal in the end. After graduating from college, I was finally able to obtain a better job that helped me establish my trading account to a healthy level. During the process, I also took classes in fundamental trading in order to better my education. After passing my SEC (Securities and exchange) exam. I have learned a lot of the fundamental education that influence my trades to this day.
Last day waking up for hell
The beginning of 2019 which humbled me. A realization point that molded my mind to focus on what life has planned ahead. This was taken on the last shift ever waking up early to grind on a job I did not enjoy.
Having a lack of risk management and discipline, I told myself I would never make that same mistake again. As a reminder of what the end of 2018 brought to me, allowing myself to be financially screwed and buried in debt. I had gotten risk & reward tattooed on my wrist, as a reminder of the trials that had to be endured in order to succeed. Those who don’t know me, or even some friends never understood why I got these tattoos. However it’s another scar to me that was not only the cause of my downfall, but one of the keys to my success.
There’s nothing wrong with taking side paths to build up the road on which you choose to walk. Finishing college was the ideal move for me to position myself better in order to achieve my goals. It allowed me to obtain a great job at the time, which then in return helped me fund my trading account. There are no shortcuts to success, start with the end in mind. Then figure out how you are going to get there.
2020 - "Exactly one year was spent in the gutter. Worked, finished school, built the blue prints all 2019. 2020 construction finally begun."
2020, after obtaining my SEC license and leaving my job behind. I have been compounding my account and growing my trading account independently again. With the extra time on my hands, I was able to commit time into my local fire department as a volunteer firefighter and pursue my hobbies with golf and as a car enthusiast. I’m no millionaire (yet) however this is just the beginning. I’ve invested a lot of time and money into the revival of Forex Forensics. My goal is to share all the lessons I’ve learned since 2017. And as I continue to grow and expand, bring my team up with me. From the technical portions, discipline, and fundamental experiences gained. The object of Forex Forensics is to help everyone with all levels of experience. From new, to existing traders who may be struggling.
Consistency is key
Enduring through 2019 and obtaining the blessings that I have so far. (Besides covid ruining the year, fuck covid) Consistency has held a much more significant meaning to me than anything. Regardless of where you are in life, if you have a goal in mind. Consistency will drive you through whatever life throws at you.
Helping the community
Back in 2017 when I first became an independent trader. I had the desire to protect my community with the amount of extra free time given. Being a trader allows me to be more available to protect my community.
Friends and family have always been the most important thing to me. A common goal in this world is money, but to me time will always hold more value. It’s the only resource you cannot get back. Spend it wisely, the whole focus of my goals as a trader. Was to be able to spend the time I have with the people I care for most.
No trader is perfect, we all take losses. However there is always room to improve, having risk management and consistency. Those key factors are how becoming a profitable trader is obtainable.
